Memorials are taking place in Canada and around the world, marking a tragic anniversary. Two years ago Ukraine International Airlines flight 752 was shot down over Iran. Fifty-five Canadians were among the 176 victims. Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau joined their family members for an online vigil. As David Akin reports, there are new efforts to force Iran to provide compensation.

From diplomatic boycotts of next month’s Winter Olympics to fears about democracy and security being threatened, multiple countries are taking a stand against the Chinese government. And pressure is mounting on Ottawa to devise a way to deal with Beijing. Our Ottawa bureau chief Mercedes Stephenson spoke with the foreign affairs minister Melanie Joly about this very issue.

South of the border, confirmed COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are sky-rocketing across much of the U.S. In California, the number of people in hospital with COVID has more than doubled in just two weeks. And as Jennifer Johnson explains, the burden being put on health-care workers is difficult to bare.

Housing prices in Canada’s most notorious housing markets just keep hitting the roof. In Toronto, the average home price is now more than $1.1 million, that’s up almost 22 per cent from a year ago. Head west to Vancouver and you’ll have to shell out even more at $1.2 million, that’s nearly 12 per cent higher than last year. Now the think tank “Generation Squeeze” thinks it has a solution to stop B.C.’s soaring prices. Ted Chernecki has more.

Testing positive for COVID-19 while abroad is the total opposite of a vacation. As Anne Gaviola reports, the highly contagious Omicron variant is creating a whole new hassle for sun seekers.

The start of the new year means the start of another award season in Hollywood. And the popular ceremony that usually kicks things off won’t be the star-studded event it normally is. In fact, the Golden Globe Awards won’t even be televised. Mike Drolet explains.

Trudeau's words mean nothing. Iran has agreed to pay, but Trudeau needs to look like the savior. International law is a joke, it is only used to serve the whim of America and her wants. America and her people are exempt from international laws.
Trudeau has no clue what people have to go through. He is a spoiled rich kid.

Fears of democracy being threatened ? Look to America if you want to point a finger on democracy being lost. They claim to be the world's democracy, but they are the furthest from one.

The surtax for the house price will not work. Because the tax will be directly affect to the price, that will makes the price increase, not decrease. The only way to stop the house price increase is to limit the loan for the house buying.

Canada and the U.S. has proved that their medical systems can handle this pandemic, so give yourself a pat on the back for not letting people die in the parking lot or on the streets, like some countries are doing. We were prepared for this and it will pass.

30000 and counting dead under the current government and yet no commemoration, no monument, no admissibility of guilt, no anniversary. hundreds of thousands of aboriginal children abused and terminated and to this day no commemoration, no anniversary, no monument, no justice, no accountability. hell on earth indeed.

humans (yes ladies, still hu-man) are afraid of death since this condition is the only actual permanent thing on the face of the planet…and this scares us. you can be a criminal and will get away with it, you can have pain and you will overcome, you can be corrupt and nothing will happen to you, you can lie and steal and all is shrugged of your hands, etc etc etc……but death, death is and remains as such once it takes us all. can not get around it, can not escape it, can not mould it.

    (4-148)
Allah loveth not the utterance of harsh speech save by one who hath been wronged. Allah is ever Hearer, Knower.

    [4:149]
If ye do good openly or keep it secret, or forgive evil, lo! Allah is ever Forgiving, Powerful.

    [4:150]
    004.150 Lo! those who disbelieve in Allah and His messengers, and seek to make distinction between Allah and His messengers, and say: We believe in some and disbelieve in others, and seek to choose a way in between;

    [4:151]
Such are disbelievers in truth; and for disbelievers We prepare a shameful doom.

    [4:152]
But those who believe in Allah and His messengers and make no distinction between any of them, unto them Allah will give their wages; and Allah was ever Forgiving, Merciful.

    [4:153]
The people of the Scripture ask of thee that thou shouldst cause an (actual) Book to descend upon them from heaven. They asked a greater thing of Moses aforetime, for they said: Show us Allah plainly. The storm of lightning seized them for their wickedness. Then (even) after that) they chose the calf (for worship) after clear proofs (of Allah’s Sovereignty) had come unto them. And We forgave them that! And We bestowed on Moses evident authority.

    [4:154]
And We caused the Mount to tower above them at (the taking of) their covenant: and We bade them: Enter the gate, prostrate! and We bode them: Transgress not the Sabbath! and We took from them a firm covenant.

    [4:155]
Then because of their breaking of their covenant, and their disbelieving in the revelations of Allah, and their slaying of the prophets wrongfully, and their saying: Our hearts are hardened – Nay, but Allah set a seal upon them for their disbelief, so that they believe not save a few –

    [4:156]
    And because of their disbelief and of their speaking against Mary a tremendous calumny;

    [4:157]
And because of their saying: We slew the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, Allah’s messenger – they slew him not nor crucified him, but it appeared so unto them; and lo! those who disagree concerning it are in doubt thereof; they have no knowledge thereof save pursuit of a conjecture; they slew him not for certain.

    [4:158]
But Allah took him up unto Himself. Allah was ever Mighty, Wise.

    [4:159]
There is not one of the People of the Scripture but will believe in him before his death, and on the Day of Resurrection he will be a witness against them –

    [4:160]
Because of the wrongdoing of the Jews We forbade them good things which were (before) made lawful unto them, and because of their much hindering from Allah’s way,

    [4:161]
And of their taking usury when they were forbidden it, and of their devouring people’s wealth by false pretences, We have prepared for those of them who disbelieve a painful doom.

    [4:162]
But those of them who are firm in knowledge and the believers believe in that which is revealed unto thee, and that which was revealed before thee, especially the diligent in prayer and those who pay the poor- due, the believers in Allah and the Last Day. Upon these We shall bestow immense reward.
