The West Block: June 26, 2022 | Taking stock of Canada's NORAD spending promises
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

In an interview on this week’s edition of “The West Block,” Chief of the Defence Staff Gen. Wayne Eyre said he isn’t clear where the money to implement promised upgrades to NORAD continental defence systems is coming from. Defence Minister Anita Anand had said a promised $4.9-billion upgrade would come from new money, before correcting that the money was part of $8 billion in new spending promised in the last federal budget.

Plus, in an interview with our host, former Conservative Senate leader Marjory LeBreton said that Conservative leadership candidates jumping on the “grievance brigade” is doing a “disservice” not only to the party but to the country. LeBreton – who served as a spokesperson for Stephen Harper and later his right hand in the Senate during the Senate expense scandal – said she fears the party may not be able to hold together.

LeBreton is 100% right. The Conservative Party needs an electable candidate for the country not just specific parts of the party. I was a Poilievre fan before he turned so abrasive and ultra right wing. I liked his economic views and his disdain for the corruption in the Liberal party. Now I feel his appeal to moderate conservatives and potential conservative voters is deteriorating beyond repair. Please Mr. Poilievre, be a candidate Canadians can vote for in the next election..even those who are not members of the Conservative party because we need more than the party base to beat the Liberals.

Illegal blockades just like asking for a mental health examination for further processing a persons firearms license, can not be conducted without fully violating a persons constitutional rights.

Being a former soldier in the 80s and 90s I watched the Liberal party decimate funding for the military. I’m ashamed the way our government treats its soldiers.

    Yup.
I lose interest in politics every time I hear one side attacking the other. This is our lives were talking about, and they choose to act like children.

Canada should have a roadmap that politicians MUST follow, 8nstead of individuals doing what they think is better for Canadians. We know what we want. Jobs with fair pay, affordable housing, more to combat racism etc etc. Anything on top of that that would help Canadians can be an idea ones elected can suggest, but NO ONE should touch the above for example.

Politicians should do THE job, not A job on us!

Can someone please tell me if Canada sent all its weapons and soon, all its soldiers to Ukraine who is protecting Canada at home? We are leaving the country completely exposed to invasion. How does any of this make sense for a war that doesn’t make sense!

Under the Liberals, I’m not sure I believe the sexual misconduct allegations. I think they got rid of strong generals to decimate what’s left of Canada’s army. There were never any investigations made public re these ‘misconduct’ firings. Where are the facts?

It's funny how the Cons always call for tax cuts. Little do they know that they are also neutering our military by cutting taxes. An by doing so, they are also cutting Vet funds at the same time.
