Global National: Jan. 1, 2022 | Why some Canadian provinces are changing isolation requirements
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Even though Canada’s COVID-19 cases are exploding due to the Omicron variant, some provinces are now shortening the isolation periods for vaccinated Canadians infected by the virus. Ross Lord explains what’s behind the move, and where provinces may differ in their pandemic response.

The Omicron variant is also slamming Saskatchewan with record COVID-19 case counts, but the province still has no plans for tighter pandemic restrictions. Nathaniel Dove looks at how that province’s strategy is sparking concerns for the health system, after being strained by the Delta-driven fourth wave.

Though many New Year’s Eve festivities in the U.S. were scaled back or cancelled due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, millions of Americans still attended packed events throughout major cities. As Jennifer Johnson reports, doctors fear health systems may pay the price, as they brace for a post-holiday COVID surge.

Although 2021 marked a year when Canadians confronted the painful reality of the country’s treatment of Indigenous people, there was also a historic first as Mary Simon was appointed as governor general – the first Indigenous person to become the Queen’s representative in Canada. Mercedes Stephenson spoke with Simon regarding on what’s on her agenda.

Hospitals should just sent people home if they have covid, when enough people can’t work and everything start shutting down, then people may learn to play by the rules.

let's see when people starts to wake up and understand vaccination will only prolong the pandemic, and with the vaccine passport, it provides solid proof that vaccinated people are the potential spreaders spreading the virus all over the world and within countries since they are the only ones allowed to travel and enter any public premises. The horrible spanish flu ended in 2 years time just because there is no vaccination and everybody dealt with the pandemic in a natural way, isolation, locate and contain is the only method to end the pandemic. When there is no vaccination, everybody will be hiding themselves and isolation cuts all the transmission paths and the virus can be contained.

Isn't it funny that every province have completely different ways of dealing with the SAME virus? It's like politicians do whatever they want to and have different excuses to do anything they want. And what's up with politicians getting COVID by the dozens? Seems like they don't follow those protocols they put in. I've dealt with about 5000 people this year alone because of my work and never got the damn virus so how's it possible that they always seem to catch it? weird
