Following a December 27, 2021, video call between Japan’s Defence Minister Nobuo Kishi and his Chinese counterpart Wei Fenghe, Tokyo said the two countries have agreed to set up a military hotline by the end of 2022. Announcing the decision, Japan’s top government spokesman, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno, also said Kishi had stressed the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

Japan has every right to build their military again as they know very well that a nation that not defended will surely be conquered.

May I ask why it takes a whole year to implement a military hotline? A hotline is to prevent wars, prevent accidental wars? What's the delay?

Japan: Peace in the strait of Taiwan is important.
China: I agree. Peaceful Reunification with Taiwan is the most ideal for China as well.
USA: *”pulls troop from middle east and prepares for war with China*”
China, this is your last warning, do not invade Taiwan.
    Japan: …?

Yes, it is a great progress that some countries are negotiating instead of using their military to show off.

The thing is, the country that japan is negotiating with is China… who has a history of not keeping its promises…

As much as I would like for Asian unification between the likes of China, Korea, Japan, etc ………………..I still cannot forgive the Japanese government for their disrespect towards the countries and nations they brutalized while under Japanese Imperial Rule. Taiwan's destiny is already set …………….just like how HK's 2019 revolution wasn't going to amount to anything. Will be interesting how Japan and the US relationship will be with their military bases

Reading all the comments in here, which seems are overall positive but I'm skeptical about this, It is true, first of all that I'm happy that they were finding a way to lessen tension and improve relationship which most people perceived in here, where happy but then again we have to think, is this a de-escalation or delaying of what is seems a crisis, I know that no one wants War, but more importantly no one wants there territory being taken from them, and the reason I said it is because I am a Filipino. In the end though I just want people to think more about this kinds of treaties or agreements.

Alright…my honest opinion is that the Chinese government may not commit themselves to any hotlines or constraint themselves from violating international waters based on their claims on South /East China Sea, and Taiwan. From what I understand, Xi made it very clear that the China is to be unified; by any means necessary. His concept of “unifying” China is foggy; but if brutally suppressing the protestors of Hong Kong is their way of unifying China under one rule; then they quite capable of atrocities; genocides upon the minor groups of people living within their territories just to “unify” China under whatever is one. Given the events, I think the path the Chinese government is taking is leaning toward something that won’t look pretty. That seems to becoming clear yet we’re still walking in the fog screen
