Why Wild Ginseng Is So Expensive | So Expensive
source
I remember going to Korea in 1997 when I was still in middle school with my grandfather who was a Korean War veteran. Our tour guide told me that if I go into the mountains and find wild ginseng I could sell it to big company executives and become a millionaire. True story I used to dream of running away to Korea to strick it rich. 🤦🏻♂️
Who knew a simple wild root could be that much expensive
Form Nepal
So..why is it so expensive? You chat so much but not answer your own question.
Why do so many people struggle to say words with two letter Ts. Potent, important etc

Herbal medicine is not "alternative" medicine; it is traditional medicine. The allopathic drug culture is really just over 100 years old, and has failed miserably in many respects. Herbal medicine is the foundation of true healing in cultures all around the world, and has been for thousands of years.
I thought the wild ginseng gonna jump the moment that you wanna caught it so i was told why its expensive 😛
The types of ginseng, age of it, and how people harvested them have significant impact on the price. Like getting wood. You get wood selling for thousands and really cheap wood everywhere at the same time. Not all ginseng sells for thousands. You can get those cheap ones everywhere in Korea and China pharmacy, some people even drink them daily but not everyone can, not because of the price but for health concerns, it’s a type of eastern medicine.
girls can sell farts and bath water online and become millionaires 🤣🤣 what determines a price?

Ginseng is the most expensive export good and has been traded as currency in Korean history. It was known as immortal medicine enables to Eternal youth(不老長生) in the china area 3000 years ago. The product class-divided depends on the country and evaluated it as high ranking about Goryeo Ginseng(高麗人蔘) in East Asian countries from ancient times. In 1500 years ago, ancient three kingdoms(Goguryeo, Baekje, Silla) envoys devoted it as a gift to a birthday party of a Chinese emperor. In 1122, artificial cultivation was successful and exported in bulk as private or official-trade, and represented brand goods(Ginseng is only best from Goryeo or Joseon Ginseng). Even Mongols that pushed disaster in the Asian continent, were delighted about the gift of Goryeo Ginseng. Because they believed it as immortal medicine that was trying to be found by Qin Shi Huang(始皇帝) of legendary.
The history of the ginseng trade in japan began in AD 739. Balhae king 'Mun(文王)' sent the ginseng of 39.6 pounds, and the Japanese royals were pleased. They believed it as Panacea(萬病通治藥) and were spread rumor some Japanese committed suicide even though cured illness because they couldn't afford the high prices. Japanese made 80% pure silver-ingot(人參代往古銀) and used it as exchange currency between Joseon dynasty and Edo Shogunate. The price in the Joseon period was an average estimated 640g of silver on 300g of Ginseng( 158 X 16 => 2528 pounds of rice ). In Japan, 1kg of Ginseng( 2.2 pounds ) was traded as 80% pure silver-ingot(人參代往古銀) of 120, and it's estimated 8,963 US dollar today. The scale of pay by the Edo Shogunate against the trade of Ginseng to the Joseon dynasty is estimated at 11 tons yearly, and it reached 70% among silver production in Japan.
Since recorded its efficacy in the medical book of the Ming dynasty 1600s, the price exploded 150 times because of soaring demand in mainland China.
In the 1800s, the price of Goryeo Ginseng increased over gold. In Japan of the Edo period, 600g of Ginseng became traded as a gold of 960g or silver of 3640g. The interesting thing was china and japan produced themselves to reduce the outflow of silver, and the Joseon dynasty fell into an economic crisis with a trade deficit in 1750. But Kaesong Merchants(開城商人) succeeded in creating upgraded products called 'red ginseng, and recover trade deficit one again. In the 18th century, the range of artificial cultivation was expanded into a whole area, and cultivation technology developed. In 1847, the production amount exploded to 52,000 pounds from 158 pounds, and 19,000 ~ 26,000 pounds among that exported into china and japan. During the Qing age, the Ginseng traded as 350 ~ 700 silver Tael(兩) per 1.32 pounds. One silver Tael is estimated at 4130 yuan in modern Chinese currency and 4130 X 350 =>> 1,445,500 yuan, and exchanged in US dollars $226,737. If calculated 4130 X 700 =>> 2,891,000 yuan, and exchanged in US dollars $453,474.
If calculated it as an annual trade profit 26,000 X 350 silver Tael =>> 9 million silver Tael (1,445,500 X 26,000 =>> 37,583,000,000,00 yuan, and exchanged in $590 billion Today).
If calculated it as an annual trade profit 26,000 X 700 silver Tael =>> 18 million silver Tael( 2,891,000 X 26,000 =>> 75,166,000,000,00 yuan, and exchanged in $1,180 billion today).
Today Goryeo Ginseng is managed by Korea Ginseng Corporation.
Additional information: Before artificial cultivation succeeded first on Ganghwa Island in 1122, all ginseng was called "Wild-ginseng(山蔘). Because It means that Wild-ginseng found deep in the mountain in the ancient-age, was evaluated itself as a mystical medicine. Full-scale cultivation began in Mohu Mountain(母后山) in Dongbok-Myeon, Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do and was introduced in the Kaesong area by locals merchants' efforts. Later Kaesong becomes the capital of ginseng cultivation. Originally, ginseng meant wild-ginseng but the Goryeo dynasty faced a serious shortage of ginseng with excessive gathering. Therefore, each artisan was required to develop cultivation technology a long time ago due to lacking supply amounts that enable gathering it in the mountain. Govts required more wild ginseng to gatherer village as collecting a tax devoting tribute to china & used in royal medicine. Locals were run away to avoid unreasonable-taxation, and Govts have granted social penalties (蔘弊) to peasants and forcibly ordered cultivation. Peasants(百姓) began to develop cultivation skills to avoid penalties, and it's become a motivation for artificial cultivation in the Korean Peninsula.
