Dear International Students waiting to enter Japan,

We have recently informed you that you would be admitted to enter Japan from November 8th, and we have been making preparations to accept you. However, on November 29th, the Japanese Government has announced new border enforcement measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and the new entry of foreign nationals has been suspended. We know that some of you have already started to make preparations for your arrival in Japan, but we regret that you will have to wait a little longer.

We understand that some of you may be feeling anxious and impatient about these frequent measures, and if this is the case, you can contact the International Student Consulting Room at the Student Support Center in our university. Guidance counselors are available to help you with any concerns you may have.

This new course of action is being taken for the time being as a precautionary measure for one month as an emergency response to the Omicron outbreak. However, we will keep you informed of the changing situation through your faculty department, and on the Student Support Center website written below. You can also visit the following website to confirm the latest developments.

The University of Tsukuba hopes that this temporary measure will be eased and that you will be able to enter Japan as soon as possible. We will continue to prepare for your arrival and the start of your student life.

We hope to see you in Tsukuba soon.

December 9, 2021

OTA Kei, Vice President for Student Affairs
KATO Mitsuyasu, Vice President for Education
BENTON Caroline F., Vice President for Global Affairs
