Synopsis

All eyes are on IBM’s transformation under Arvind Krishna, from a legacy software-and-services company to a new-age enterprise that provides hybrid cloud products, AI, and other solutions. Indeed, Big Blue is catching up with competition in its new avatar. But whether IBM can outdo its rivals and set the industry agenda is a trillion-dollar question.

Last week, the world’s oldest technology company completed a dramatic shift in strategy in its 110-year history. International Business Machines (IBM) spun off its IT infrastructure services business — once its cash cow and now a drag in an era dominated by the FAANG players and nimble startups — into a separate unit called Kyndryl Holdings Inc.The spin off, one of the biggest bets by IBM’s first India-born chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna (59)
