International travel from the UK for the Easter holidays has got off to a bumpy start, with thousands met with long queues, delays and cancelled flights.
Some airports and airlines have been struggling as passenger numbers gradually return to pre-pandemic levels.
Travellers at Manchester Airport have described scenes of “chaos” after several missed their flights, amid warnings that emergency services staff could be drafted in to tackle problems.
The BBC’s transport correspondent Katy Austin and news correspondent Ben Boulos report.

Russia will pretend to be a follower of Jesus Christ for punishing West
Sweet home, sweet home 😁
Don’t go on holiday The world is still in a bit of a crisis whether you’ve been fully vaccinated or not just stay at home
Causes of war between Russia and Ukraine. Who is behind? https://youtu.be/Qb3BB2x1-Po
Staff shortages hmmm. Occasion for smuggling gangs?
Those who book budget airline should not complaint.. you get what you pay for .
Tui are not listening to the advice of the CAA, they're taking the money from customers and cancelling and transporting customers all over the place. No thought whatsoever given to the customers.
So why are they taking bookings knowing they can't staff them,
Cut down the amount of flights if you can only staff 7 a day only take booking for 7 not 25
Maybe it's because there ain't enough staff, ground workers ,baggage handlers all key admin workers, from Eastern Europe like Romania, Poland perhaps?🤔
Or as the arrogant vain nationalistic lot we are, we can use covid as an excuse? Or the wrong type of snow perhaps,or computer sez no perhaps 🤔???
What ever it will be it won't be because of losing vital labour due to brexit that's for sure because our vain arrogant country won't have the humility to admit it.
HAHAHAHAH WELCOME TO BREXIT SUCKERS!
How come UK is the only country with this chaos. Even 3rd world has coped. UK is a total mess, the so called 'empire' loooong gone.
Don't allow people to fly if you know you don't have the staff available
I really sympathise with people being treated so poorly by the airlines.
Unfortunately alot of the way tour operators and airlines treat us is down to the holidaymakers themselves, and particularly us Brits.
Time and time again I see holidaymakers "putting up" with dreadful treatment, quite often saying "oh well we are on holiday" even whilst on holiday again the same response when it comes to the accomodation…."Ah well we're on holiday, let's not complain" problem is you may not want to spoil your holiday by complaining, but if everyone does this and tbh its most, then the tour operators, Airlines, Hotels will go on and on every year treating the holidaymaker with zero respect, in particular brits who want to be everyones friend regardless.
You've planted the seeds from years of just putting up, now you're in the garden of disappointment 😒
Sure the airlines this year don't have the staff, but if you weren't the " ahh well let's not complain brigade" then the airlines would have made damn sure they had the resources to fulfill their obligation…your well deserved holiday.
Im a baggage handler . I wont name what station i work at. We are heavy underpaid and have shite contracts . Thats why lads who come in the door are leavint straight away. Next to minumum wage for the graft we do is a joke. Rubbish hours aswell and no shift allowance. Also no extra for overtime. No double time or time and a half. People who make coffee get paid more than us its a joke. Thats why we dont care wether your flight gets delayed or youe waiting hours at the reclaim for your luggage . We couldnt give a f**k . Pay us what we shoukd be getting and offer better contracts is the only way to solve this but swissport and menzies wont do it. I love my job and even i want to leave now its a shame
Yet again. Its bad management at the top. If i done my job that BAD . I would be sacked.
Airport delays are a Brexit bonus. Planes used to be cleaned and baggage handled by workers from other EU countries and Brexit has put an end to that. Be happy in your three hour waits and holiday cancellations and thank heavens for the joys of Brexit.
Ohhh if only workers would be treated nicely in a crises, especially as government help was available to keep them on the payroll. If only half the workforce wouldn't have been fired. If only during the two years of covid and brexit somebody would have realised that there won't be enough time to rehire tens of thousands of people. IF ONLY greedy airlines wouldn't sell more tickets than what they can actually cater for. This was an issue before covid, it's a lame excuse now to point fingers. Shame on the airlines for their greed, shame on them for treating passengers and staff in a manner that only benefits the CEOs who fly via private jet anyway
Why on earth wasn't furlough used?
Shameful self-censorship. No mention of Brexit despite this being mentioned by many airlines as a major contributing factor
Lets be honest. Its Brexit of course.
